FAB 101: In His Own Image

When I was about 14 or 15 years old, I went through a phase of wanting a nose job. I remember constantly begging my mom for one and she would also tell me that God made me perfect. Lucky for me, my parents are anti-cosmetic surgery and I grew to love my nose.

God created people in his own image;
God patterned them after himself;
male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27
We all have moments of feeling insecure about our looks or abilities and moments when we don’t recognize our worth. However, during these times it is important for us to remember that God made us in his image. Therefore, we are all perfectly imperfect.

The way you view yourself (self-esteem) sets the tone for how others will treat you. Having low self-esteem is a major problem. Researchers have linked it to poor performance at school and work, crime, homelessness, unwanted pregnancy, and sexually transmitted infections (Williamson, 2007).

Only you have the power to increase your self-esteem. It’s just a matter of adding and subtracting. Add positive people to your life, add to your education by learning something new, or add to your spiritual growth by reading the Bible or other religious doctrines. On the other hand, you have to make room for the new by subtracting the negative people out of your life, by removing yourself from a bad environment, and by removing self-doubt.

Stay Fabulous,

  1. Oh my goodness. I can TOTALLY relate to the nose thing. I'm 99.8% OK with my nose now. I'm more concerned about my poochy tummy these days. Once I saw my son born with my nose, I couldn't hate it anymore. And my husband told me I have the cutest nose he's ever seen, so I've come to terms with it. Funny, I didn't even know anything was "wrong" with it til I got to junior high and everyone teased me about having such a big nose. *sigh* Kids are so cruel. Anyway, your nose is BEAUTIFUL and so are you. :) And I love that. We're all perfectly imperfect.

  3. Hi - I am a new follower - and if I had a better memory, I would be able to tell you what blog I found you via......but I know it was the one you just did a guest post on.....
    This is a great post - I too always disliked my nose - but, I'm mostly OK with it now. I am in agreement with you about getting rid of the negative things - I had a co-worker once who had such a negative outlook on life - while I liked many things about her, it was difficult to eat lunch with her on a daily basis, because I realized I was getting sucked in to the negativity and was becoming unhappy. It is hard isn't it? You would like to try to be a positive influence, and give your friends a person to talk to about their issues, but I did find it to be overwhelming at times. I have also found that if I take the time to exercise each day, even just a little, my self-esteem, and my mood rises! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, I am looking forward to reading more!

    1. Hey Lynne. Thanks for stopping by. I had a friend thats like your co-worker. They can be so draining on the spirit. I agree about the exercise. I always feel like a super hero when I'm running.
