Trash to Treasure

Picture This: It was a hot July day. I was riding in car with my sister enjoying the scenery. When boom, my eyes saw this beat up, run down dresser sitting on the side of road. In my seat I bounce up and down and begged my sister to pull over. Her reply was a simple, “hell to the naw.”  So I watched my soon to be media console pass me by.

When I got back to my truck, I called up my ride or die chick, also known as my mom, and asked her to help me load the thing in the car. And not only did she help me pick through trash on the side of the road, she helped me give this beat up old dresser a new life. I know I’m being over dramatic with this story but I’m bored and you only live once. #YOLO J

Anywho… this was a fun project. I really needed a media console for the family room. And I went so over budget on the sofa and accent chair, so I just couldn’t pass up a free dresser even if it was covered in ugly brown paint and missing ever single drawer. Plus, I got to bring home a stripper.

After hours of stripping and sanding, the thing started to look more like a beauty and less like the beast. We took out the middle shelf to make room for baskets.

I painted the dresser using two coats of Sherwin Williams Herbal Wash. Then I painstakingly wrapped the top shelf in jute. It took forever and about 8 rolls of jute. Lastly, I popped in two big baskets, added the TV, and called it quits.

What do you think? Isn’t it lovely.
Stay Fabulous!

  7. That really looks FANTASTIC! I'm in desperate need of household staples like this. My budget is going to become less tight, so I'll be hitting the garage sales soon! I only hope to score something like this. I'm actually pretty good at the "woodworking" thing, stripping, refinishing....Wish me luck!

  17. Love it! I showed it to my son, whose dresser is a roadside kill (loved that title, by the way) and told him we should paint his purple because his room is purple....he didn't think it was a good idea...but when he is gone someday that I'm off, I'll show him what a good idea it is!!!

    This is an awesome post!

I looked at your ''fit and fabulous'' section..your so inspiring I too try and communicate the same message and im glad at the top you have ''excerise to be fit not skinny''..I think thats such an important message and I see a lot of fitness blogs that advocate being stick thin and its terrible.

Your very real and I respect that.

Hope your having a wonderful week!
